Abstract Paintings Inspired by Light and Emotion: Reading Emotions Through Color

Jeong Won expresses our inner emotions through light in her paintings. In her work, light is not just a visual element but a medium that visualizes human nature and emotional flow. Just as we need light to see objects, emotions must be expressed to be truly understood.

By utilizing color and form, Jeong Won brings emotions to life, allowing viewers to look deeper into their own feelings. Her compositions may sometimes appear simple or even intentionally imperfect. However, this approach captures the complexity and fluidity of emotions, presenting them in their purest form. The interaction of colors, lines, and movements within the canvas helps each viewer recognize and connect with their own emotions.

Her art is not just about aesthetics; it’s about honestly confronting one’s emotions and embracing oneself as they truly are. But how often do we truly see ourselves for who we are? When experiencing Jeong Won’s paintings, we are given a special opportunity to confront our emotions and inner selves.

Seeing the Human Spirit Through a Prism

The way we perceive light and the way our inner emotions are revealed share many similarities. Sunlight appears white, yet it contains the full spectrum of colors. Just as a prism separates light into different hues, human nature cannot be fully understood from outward appearances alone.

This principle is a major source of inspiration for Jeong Won. She believes that human emotions and personalities are just as layered and complex as light itself. We often judge people based on first impressions or external appearances, but beneath the surface lie countless emotions and experiences. So how well do we truly understand others?

Jeong Won uses the concept of a prism to symbolize communication and experience. She conveys the idea that understanding someone takes time. In her art, light is not just a visual element—it serves as a powerful tool to explore perspectives and emotions. When viewing her paintings, where colors merge, flow, and shift, it feels like witnessing the transformation of a person’s inner world.

Her work invites us to reflect on how we perceive both ourselves and those around us.

Abstract Paintings Inspired by Light and Emotion: The Subtle Expressions of Color

Jeong Won focuses on capturing the subtle shifts of emotion in her paintings. Emotions are ever-changing and difficult to define. In her artwork, colors blend and flow freely, showcasing the complexity of human feelings.

Bold reds symbolize outward emotions and societal perceptions, while soft blues represent inner calm and moments of uncertainty. The layering and merging of colors visually express the idea that human emotions are anything but simple.

Jeong Won hopes that viewers can confront their emotions honestly through her art. Some may see hope, while others may feel solitude when looking at the same works. There are no right or wrong emotions—what matters is embracing and acknowledging them as they are.

Beyond the Surface: The True Colors of Humanity

Jeong Won believes that humans cannot be confined to a single definition. Everyone has a unique color that may not always be immediately visible. Just as light must pass through a prism to reveal its spectrum, human nature can only be truly understood through deep interaction and shared experiences.

Many people today rely on personality tests like MBTI to define themselves and others. However, Jeong Won questions this tendency. Can a person really be categorized into a few fixed types? Human nature is fluid, changing based on life experiences and circumstances.

Her paintings challenge these assumptions and encourage viewers to find their own answers. How deeply do we understand others? And how well do we know ourselves? When we engage with her work, we are naturally led to look inward.

Emotions with Diverse Materials

Jeong Won explores a variety of materials in her artwork, carefully selecting the medium that best conveys the emotions and atmosphere of each work. She does not limit herself to a single technique, as she believes that different materials bring out different aspects of color, texture, and depth.

She often works with mixed media, layering different elements to create rich, textured compositions. Oil pastel on panel allows her to achieve bold, expressive strokes, while acrylic on canvas provides versatility in layering and color blending. She also incorporates oil pastel on paper and collage, combining textures and materials to create dynamic contrasts. Additionally, she uses oil on canvas, a traditional medium that gives her the ability to build depth and luminosity through multiple layers of paint.

Each material plays a crucial role in how her emotions and concepts take shape on the canvas. The way the pigments interact with the surface, the intensity of color, and the tactile quality of the medium all contribute to the final expression of her art. By exploring various materials, Jeong Won ensures that her work remains dynamic, continually evolving to reflect the nuances of emotion and experience.
