Interview with Uhayeon

1. Where do you primarily find your artistic inspiration?

I draw a lot of inspiration from words and sentences that I encounter in texts, dramas, movies, and books. The power of these words often resonates with me and sparks creativity.

2. What mediums or techniques do you primarily use, and why?

I mainly use oil paints. I love the weight that oil paints carry and the way they can blend and spread spontaneously when not completely dry.

3. Can you tell us more about the current works or projects you are working on?

I am currently working on pieces that delve into the nature of humans as thinking beings. My subjects are often deeply absorbed in thought or so engrossed in an activity that they forget their thoughts.

4. What recurring themes or messages can we find in your work?

Immersion is a recurring theme in my work. Itโ€™s about the act of concentrating, which can range to intense absorption. Currently, I express this through people deep in thought or playing musical instruments.

5. What has been the most memorable moment or challenge in your journey as an artist?

The most memorable moment was when my work was sold to someone who wasnโ€™t a friend or acquaintance for the first time.

6. What feature of Art Spoon has been most useful to you?

The artwork organization feature has been incredibly useful.

7. What type of artists do you think would benefit the most from Art Spoon?

Artists who want systematic artwork management and those looking to create a decent portfolio website.

Artistโ€™s Statement

My initial curiosity and questions about myself have expanded to a broader interest in humans as thinking beings. The inner diversity of humans often remains hidden on the surface, but our minds are constantly filled with a myriad of thoughts and emotions, drifting between consciousness and the subconscious. This natural activity of the brain involves choosing which thoughts to hold onto. Some actions, however, make us forget our thoughts entirely, focusing only on the task at hand. For me, this is painting. In a quiet space, the deep communion between the canvas and me through the brushwork leaves no room for any other thoughts. The figures I paint fall into two categories: those immersed in their own deep thoughts and those so engrossed in an activity that their thoughts donโ€™t interfere. Arenโ€™t we always either thinking or doing?
