Exploring the Emotional Weight: The Burden Series by AR.C
“I have come to realize that ‘baggage’ often represents things we do not need, yet we hold on to them, feeling a heavy weight upon ourselves. This can be both physical items and emotional baggage,” says AR.C. His journey of decluttering a studio in Busan led to the exploration of how material possessions and emotional states can weigh us down.
AR.C’s abstract work in the “Burden” series symbolizes the complexities of fear and anxiety that form these burdens. The intricate lines and dots in the series represent how minor worries can evolve into significant emotional loads, connected and intertwined.

Physical and Emotional Decluttering
The process of reducing baggage is not just about discarding items but also understanding and confronting emotional weights. “Physical decluttering helps, but emotional baggage is harder to let go of,” AR.C explains. “Baggage often stems from fear and anxiety — the fear of needing something in the future, or the anxiety of not having what others possess.”
In the “Burden” series, AR.C portrays these feelings through detailed and repetitive patterns, symbolizing the ongoing struggle to let go of unnecessary burdens. The act of creating these artworks serves as a meditative process, offering relief and understanding.

The Artistic Journey
The “Burden” series reflects AR.C’s desire to avoid creating unnecessary waste and to not become a burden to loved ones. Through his work, AR.C hopes to offer viewers a sense of relief from modern life’s pressures, encouraging acceptance of imperfections and finding peace in simplicity.
AR.C’s wish for the audience is profound: “I hope this series can alleviate some of the fatigue we feel in today’s society, providing comfort through its simplicity and the meditative act of creation. I aspire for the viewers to find meaning in the process, embrace their shortcomings, and move towards wholeness, not perfection.”
